Speaker’s Bio: A. Anne Holcomb, MS., Manager of Facilities and Resources, for Unity Parenting and Counseling, Inc. Holcomb has worked directly with persons experiencing homelessness, as well as an administrator, since 1994 and has taught life skills to youth since 2005. Holcomb co-authored a “Shadow Report” for the United Nations, “Homeless Youth of Color in Chicago, Illinois: Access Denied,” in 2014; and co-organized the longest running homeless youth activism group in the U.S. from 2004-2012, which led to the creation of the low threshold network of shelters and services for youth in Chicago. Additionally, Holcomb has past lived experience as homeless youth and graduated from college while living in an abandoned building in 1986.

Description: In this course, you will receive a brief introduction to pedagogy skills, gain an understanding in the ways people learn new things, be shown how to build your own life skill curricula for your clients, as well as discern what life skill domains are most essential to teach.

• The skills learned in this course can be applied in a classroom setting as well as in one-on-one settings. The suggested audience for this course is direct line case managers who work with youth or adults.
• This course will highlight how the skills have been implemented when working with young people experiencing homelessness as part of a holistic approach to assist them to obtain and maintain employment.
• The content of this course can also be applicable for teaching life skills to adults of all ages.

Fee: The training is free of cost and CEUs are available at a charge to the participant. The cost of CEUs for CoC Members is $10 per CEU hour and for non-CoC Members, it is $15 per CEU hour.
