Writing Homeless Verification Letters-04.11.24

Description
This is a recording of a training that took place on April 11th, 2024

Description: Agencies providing housing are required by HUD to document the homelessness eligibility of participants enrolling in their programs. This requirement is frequently met by requesting a homeless verification letter from a 3rd party.

Staff working at drop-in centers or street outreach are in a crucial position to provide these letters, and providing accurate documentation helps ensure participants receive services.

This training provides an overview of what information should be included when writing a 3rd party homeless verification letter. Attendees will understand why this information is needed and how it relates to the criteria that housing providers are audited on. Sample exercises will be used to illustrate how to improve these letters.

please note: this training is geared towards drop-in center and street outreach staff on how to write 3rd party verification letters. This is not a training on completing the Chronic Homeless Verification Packet or the full requirements for housing programs to document homelessness.

Recommended Audience:Staff working for homeless service providers who are in a position to write 3rd party homeless verification letters, especially those working at drop-in centers and street outreach
