History of Housing Discrimination in Chicago-03.15.23

Description
This is a recording of a webinar that took place on March 15th 2023.

Description: Systemic racism is directly connected to the rate at which Black individuals experience homelessness in Chicago. Despite making up approximately 30% of Chicago’s total population, over 70% of those experiencing homelessness identify as Black or African American. This training will provide a history of housing discrimination both nationally and in Chicago, with an emphasis on how Black Americans have been impacted. The present-day consequences of a history of discriminatory practices and segregation will be discussed, including the continued effect on economic equity, quality of life, and access to housing.

Recommended Audience: Any staff interacting with individuals experiencing homelessness; anyone who wants to learn more about homelessness in Chicago

Presenter: Deshea Ezewueme and David Petering, All Chicago
