Description:Understanding the nuances of substance use and addiction is vital in the work folks do with clients. This training will provide the basics on substance use information and discuss effective treatment options that people have including harm reduction. This training will also provide tips and tools on how to effectively communicate with someone regarding their substance use and addiction.
Learning Objectives:
1. Provide information on the basics of substance use and addiction
2. Review different treatment methods for substance use including harm reduction
3. Explore motivational interviewing techniques and skills that can help in communicating with clients
4. Provide different tips, techniques and tools that can be used when talking to people with substance use issues and put them into practice

Recommended Audience: Any direct service providers; other staff who may have contact with program participants; landlord outreach staff
